PUBLIC SAFETY <br />VISION <br />Roseville shall be a community with minimal fear and worry over personal safety by our residents, or the <br />potential for significant loss of property. This feeling of safety comes because we are a community of <br />thoughtful and caring people who place great emphasis upon prevention, planning, and prompt response <br />to requests for emergency assistance, and we have implemented plans to mitigate and ameliorate public <br />safety problems. <br />GOALS <br />Community Crime Prevention <br />Heighten individual and family awareness and accountability in basic crime prevention strategies <br />in order to head off the potential for criminal behavior. <br />o Assist individuals and families in becoming stakeholders in our community through <br />intensive public information and community outreach efforts. <br />■ Neighborhood watch, citizen police academy, national night out, family night out <br />o Increase parental responsibility and accountability for the actions of their children. <br />• McGruff Safe House, Parent Support Group <br />o Heighten family awareness of the need for "child well-being", including sound nutrition, <br />basic health care, effective parenting practices, and sound educational programs. <br />Assist individuals and families in implementing basic crime prevention strategies to avoid reliance <br />on police as the primary means of ensuring public safety. <br />o Enforce a curfew ordinance consistently throughout the community. <br />o Develop and train neighborhood watch groups in 100 percent of Roseville <br />■ In 2003 there are now a total of 180 crime watch blocks neighborhoods and to <br />assist such groups in remaining active and visible. <br />o Develop and implement comprehensive leisure program options for school age children <br />and youth with emphasis upon non-athletic alternatives. To ensure accessibility, a means <br />for transportation to and from activities should be developed. <br />o Assist in the development of licensed, affordable childcare options within the community, <br />especially during non-school hours. <br />■ 2"at risk" support groups; fire prevention inspection <br />o Assist in the development of intervention programs for at risk children and youth. <br />o Employ intensive education programs on safety practices and consequences of committing <br />crime. <br />• NWYFS <br />o Support the work of juvenile liaison officers in our schools. <br />o Assist in securing help for those citizens with compulsive addictive behaviors <br />• drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc <br />• Work with school, juvenile court <br />o Increase the number of McGruff safe houses for children to one per block. <br />o Enhance personal security in public places such as parks, recreational areas, and mass <br />transit "Park and Ride" sites through augmented lighting, emergency access telephones, <br />and other state of the art technologies. <br />Vista 2000 Report Page 14 of 24 <br />
