REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 02/27/0b <br />ITEM: 10. <br />ApprovaL• Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />Item Description: Adopt Amendments ta Chapter 602 of City Code adding Section 601.05 <br />Relating to Installation and Maintenance af Traffic Control Devices <br />Background: <br />Staff has researched the past practices of determining the need for and placement of trafif c <br />control signage in the City of Roseville. State statu�e designates the Council or governing bady <br />as the raad authority. Staff k�as been operating under Resolutian 6946, dated April 28, 1980, <br />which delegates the investigation, study, implementa�ion, instalIation, or ather correcfiive <br />measures for alI matters relating to vehic�lar traffic cnnditians to the Traffic Safety Cornmittee. <br />Staff discussed this issue with the Council on 3an�ary 23, 2006. The city attorney reeommendect <br />that the practice outlined in the resolution be codified. The Council concurred and directed staff <br />to return at a future date wi�h an ordinance amending city code. Stafi and the City Attorney have <br />drafted an ordinance adding a sectian 601.05 entitled Traffic Control Devices. (Attachment A) <br />This oardiz�anee captures the intent of Resolutian 6946. (Attachment B) <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recomznends t�e Council adapt this ardinance and continue the practice of the Traffic <br />Safety Committee studying, implementing, and recommending traffie safety measures that has <br />worked well over the years. Difficult issues would continue to be discussed with the Council as <br />they arise, and �earir�gs would continue to be held in sifuatians that greatly affect neighborhoods. <br />RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: <br />Motion to adapt an ardinance adding a section 602.05 to City Code entitled "Traffic Control <br />Devices" <br />Prepared By: Duane Schwartz <br />
