(The background Council memos regarding that decision are attached.)
The fire department started responding to injury accidents on November 7, 2005 using already on-duty
personnel.
It was the goal to use this trial period to evaluate the overall impact on patient care when fire department
emergency medical technicians and paramedics responded to injury accidents.
The following statistics are from the trial period.
3 Number of fire department responses to reported injury accidents: 54
9 Percent of time the fire department arrived ahead of Allina: 88%
3 Number of patients assessed/treaed by fire department personnel: 31
3 Number of accidents where FD personnel controlled hazards: 17
The fire department's response to injury accidents does not require a change in City Code. Wording in the
current Code provides for the police and fire departments to provide emergency services.
No additional budget allocation was requested to provide this service and none is needed to continue this
service.
This enhancement in medical care for Roseville residents and visitors is supported by the City Manager, the Fire
Chief, the Police Chief, and the administration at Allina Medical Transportation.
At the April 24 Council Meeting, we will be seeking the support of Council to authorize the fire department to
continue responding to reported injury accidents.
