Reasons for wanting to serve on the Community Visioning Steering Committee: I believe that we i,',7�k� be able to define and communicate issues, problems and opportunities for the entire community so that: ✓ we can eiacoui-age participation from the rr�art�r different sectors of the community in ofle�ing their ideas lor Roseville's future, and through integrating those ideas to get 'buy-in' ancl u��derst�nc�ing in a shared vision. f we can translate tl7�t vision into t�nrlerstarldable o��eratio�lal goals, objectives and measures toi- evaluating progress. ✓ we can effectively budget ��n- and implemez�t long- :�i�:f sl�ort-terzn programs a��r1 policies that will support and enllaa�ce our community's vision. ✓ we can continue to atti-act and retain businesses and f'annz�xes for our community, offering the services and �enefits ehey want which will retain Roseville's position as one of the best places to live and work. f we can appropriately lobby foz- needed traffic improvements under t��ze aegis of the Metropolitan Council, Ramsey County and the Minnesota Department of Trai-�sportatzon. (Ibelieve transportation is one of our major issues.) I have organizational, planning and communication skills to contribute to this elfort, both ir1 helping organize the work that is necessary to dra�� ideas and input from residents and businesses and in providing continuity from VISTA 2000. What is your view of the role of the Gommunity Visioning Steering Committee? This small group will serve as the 'glue' for tlze process, worlcin� with the Council, city staff �iiii: corisultant(s} to ensure that the process is open, non-partisan, well-defined ai�c� on track to meet the goals set forth by the Council, It will pa��-t.icipate in establishing the key issues, problems and z�eeds and assistin the assigning interested individuals to the subcommittees that will explore them ii_ depth. It inay also need to recruit members for sectors that are underrepresented and establish a methodology and format fo� reporting subcommittee recommendations. Other Comments: I am pleased that the Council is undertaking a conununity visioning process at this time. As someone who has been involved with planning issues in Roseville for almost 20 years, it is clear that the ability to look ahead in time has contributed to the excellent quality of life ii� the city. The rapid changes in technology, society, and life scyles suggest that a x�ew co��rehensive loolc is needed.
