It can be an urbane azd diverse community which values its existing suburban
culture but recognizes that clage Will occur and our only real cioice is whether to plan or
react to it. And the first step in that planning is to understand what today residents value, a3d
wlt their hoes and drea are for their cozunity's future and their place in it.
My over twenty-year experience of working for tle Capitol Area Architectural and Planning
Board and to a lesser exten— withtae St. Paul Riverfront Board of Directors provides me
with the relevant perspective and background to be of value to the Visionary Steering
Committee. This experience exposed i1 to a variety of planning issues, community
concerns, and bottom-line practical relities such as budgets, but it also taught ne that you
never really succeed unless you get others to invest in your objectives and share your dream.
