City Council Regular Meeting — 04/10/06
DRAFT Minutes - Page 2
A. Lucille Calguire, Ramsey Square Condominiums
Ms. Calguire expressed concern regarding the potential
fate or demise of the Fairview Community Center;
recognizing that the School District owned the facility,
but requesting that the City Council use their influence
to make sure that it would be available to the
community if the Fairview Community Center were no
longer used. Ms. Calguire further noted that a
swimming pool designated for school students would
not be conducive to senior citizen programming, as the
temperature was not warm enough. Ms. Calguire
encouraged the City of Roseville to take over the
Fairview Community Center to ensure that it remained
available to the community.
Mayor Klausing noted that the City Council and
Ioseville School Board had met this past Saturday to
discuss joint areas of interest, and the topic of the
Fairview Community Center's future was a topic and
would continue to be discussed, as well as the
community's interest in pursuing a community center.
Councilmember Kough thanked Ms. Calguire for her
comments, concurring with her comments as echoed
throughout the community.
B. Tam McGehee, 77 Mid Oaks Lane
Ms. McGehee spoke to a recent article in the Sunday,
April 9, 2006 Pionee Pess regarding retail
development in the City of Roseville, and quotes from
John Shardlow and Community Development Director
Dennis Welsch. Ms. McGehee opined that the City
already had sufficient retail, requiring an inordinate
amount of designated funding from the Police and Fire
Department budgets. Ms. McGehee suggested that the
City should spend taxpayer monies doing "our own
business, rather than accommodating more retail
centers; spealing specifically to the proposed Twin
Lakes Development and use of tax increment
financing.
