The 7th-ranked goal or priority as stated at the meeting was:
Continue to Integrate Technology
1 an effort to further define this goal and to identify potential objectives or action steps that may
be needed to achieve it, the following infoation is submitted
Defining the Goal
Over the last 10 years, the City has increasingly implemented new technological solutions as a
means of improving our service delivery process. It is recognized that technology in of itself
does not produce programs and services. Also, the value of technology is inherently dependent
on how it is used. As such, it is important to define this goal very clearly. As a suggestion, the
goal statement could be revised as:
Continue to research and develop new technologies that will enhance programs and ser-vices by
either reducing operating costs and/or irnproving the level of service currently being provided
With this goal statement, the City will commit to using new technologies responsibly and only if
it can be directly tied to improving programs and services.
Objectives or Action Steps
To achieve this goal (or some revised one), we have tentatively identified the following
objectives or action steps that might be needed. They include:
1) Identify the current reliance on technology and ensure that the City has the necessary
funding sources to sustain it
2) Identify potential new technological solutions that will either reduce operating costs,
and/or improve the level of service
3) Commit to a small budget allocation specifically designated for future technological
development
Certainly other action steps may need to be identified to give greater clarity to the goal.
