Meeting April 30,2003
I:00 p.m.
Present: Councilmember Tom Kough, Carol Kriegler, Dino LaBaido, James Moses, Ron
Ness, Sid Ryals, Neal Beets, Carolyn Curti
Mayor Kysylyczyn arrived shortly before the meeting ended.
Tom explained that the City Council discussed this issue briefly at their April 28 meeting.
He said that it was okay to have signs with civic organizations but not businesses.
Currently we are planning for the Kiwanas, Lions, VFW, American Legion and Roseville
Visitors Association to financially support the signs and to have logos on the signs.
These signs will be placed around the City and not near City Hall. The architects will
recommend signs for near City Hall.
Carol Kriegler tall{ed about the best type of signs. Wood signs are high maintenance.
She showed two types processes using silk screening on aluminum. Both of those are
relatively low cost and have some benefits to prevent vandals from ruining the signs.
Participants discussed whether to sill{ screen the logos or if it would be better to purchase
logos and attach. They also discussed the size of logos and how visible they would be
from the street. They also talked about what colors to use and whether the groups require
that we use specific colors or if there is some flexibility in that.
Participants briefly discussed where they want to place signs.
Although Carol did not want to give a specific quote she guessed that aluminum signs
wouldn't cost more than $800 each for signs that are 2 feet by 4 feet. Public Works
would install the signs. Tom discussed the possibility of each group contributing a
minimum of $500 so that we could purchase at least 4 signs. Tom intends to solicit
money from community members so that we could purchase several more signs.
Carol will bring an estimate for four 2' x 4' signs to the next meeting. She will find
samples of the logos that can be silk screened and laminated into the signs.
Carolyn will check with Duane about what size signs may be placed along county roads.
Next meeting is May 21 at ;Q p.m.
PS —when I checked with Duane about sign size, he said it depends upon location, traffic
flow, speed, other. He recommends tat we select locations and sizes ASAP and then he
can work with the State to get approval.
