Discuss City Traffic Model and Authorize a Request for <br />Proposals <br />Public Works Director Duane Schwartz reviewed previous <br />discussions regarding funding for a city-wide traffic model as a <br />useful tool to identify impacts of redevelopment and normal <br />growth in the City's and region's transportation system. <br />Mr. Schwartz reviewed the existing traffic forecast information, <br />developed in 1992 using 1990 traffic data that forecasted 2010 <br />and 2020 traffic based on land use and anticipated streetprojects; <br />and concerns that some 2010 forecasts were exceeded in 2001. <br />Mr. Schwartz noted that the data also had no intersection <br />analysis and addressed major roads only. <br />Mr. Schwartz reviewed the need for traffic impact analyses <br />related to land development and traffic generation impacts; types <br />of traffic modeling, their basic premises and approaches <br />(macroscopic versus microscopic); the complexity of the <br />software; and the City's existing cumbersome procedure and <br />hiring of a traffic consultant by the developer anclloz- City. <br />Mr. Schwartz reviewed the estimated cost of $100,000, with the <br />Discuss City Traffic <br />Model and <br />Authorize a <br />Request for <br />Proposals <br />
