City Council Study Session — 07/17/06 <br />DRAFT Minutes - Page 12 <br />complies with the Association's by laws and State Statute and to <br />return in the fall for formal Council consideration and approval. <br />Staff was so directed. <br />4. Hear a Presentation about a"Heart-Safe Community" <br />Initiative <br />Fire Chief Rich Gasaway; Deputy Chief Chris Snyder; Allina <br />Medical Director Dr. Charles Lick; and Roseville citizen and <br />special guest Denny Harris provided a presentation on a <br />proposed "Heart-Safe" Community Initiative. <br />A brief DVD presentation summarizing the announcement of an <br />initiative for placement of Automatic External Defibrillators <br />(AED's) at numerous public facilities in the community; and <br />intensive training of their use by the general public. <br />Mr. Harris shared his story and personal appreciation as one of <br />"lucky people" having received treatment with an AED at the <br />�"airview Community Center last spring; his ultimate recovery; <br />and enthusiastic support for and assistance with placement of <br />AED's. <br />Mayor Klausing noted the value in seeing visible evidence of <br />things normally discussed in abstract; and thanked Mr. Harris for <br />his attendance. <br />Dr. Charles Lick further reviewed the Initiative and goals to <br />make the community heart-safe through working with <br />communities, business and churches to save countless lives. Dr. <br />Lick noted that fundraising was not a problem; and many <br />organizations were willing to participate. However, Dr. Lick <br />sought City Council support in encouraging training for AED use <br />and overall heart-healthy living. Dr. Lick further noted that a <br />new type of CPR training had recently been released, more <br />simplified and less intimidating, and training materials were <br />being prepared for use in the near future. <br />Deputy Chief Chris Snyder reviewed goals to replace former <br />AED's that have become obsolete and are unable to be <br />reprogrammed; and to replace 28 of the AED's with a portion in <br />the Fire and Police Department vehicles; and to train 4,000 <br />Hea�t-Safe <br />Community <br />Initiative <br />
