City Council Study Session — 08/21/06 <br />��tQiFT Minutes - Page 15 <br />Ryan Greenwood, Political Director � Take Action <br />Minnesota <br />Mr. Greenwood addressed the structure of a proposed <br />ordinance, only applicable to companies receiving public <br />monies, and triggered by those firms receiving city <br />contracts or city subsidies to support their business; and <br />supported a wage level at 130% of the poverty line as a <br />meaningful compliance mechanism. Mr. Greenwood <br />opined that such an ordinance ensured responsible public <br />spending, and was based on strong moral arguments. <br />Discussion included actual wage represented by 130% of <br />median income ($�2.SOlhour or $25,000 annually); <br />impacts to fair share health care and other assistance to <br />families (i.e., free or reduced cost school breakfasts or <br />lunches, job assistance, etc.); and individual <br />Councilmember perceptions and opinions. <br />Councilmember Ihlan expressed her interest in pursuing <br />further discussion in the future. <br />8.b Request of Councilmember Ihlan: Consider Hiring <br />Independent Outside Counsel to Review Twin Lakes <br />Court Ruling <br />Councilmember Ihlan requested that this item be moved <br />to the regular meeting of the City Council as an action <br />item. <br />8.a Request of Cvua�c��member Ihlan: Update of James <br />Addition Proposals <br />Councilmember Ihlan sought Council input on referring <br />this item to the City's Public Works, Environment, and <br />Transportation Commission (PWET). <br />Mayor Klausing, along with other Councilmembers, were <br />of the opinion that this item was being handled with <br />ongoing neighborhood discussions for a proposed plan by <br />a Task Force consisting of Councilmembers Kough and <br />Ihlan. <br />
