On September 1, 2006 at 2:OQ PM the bids were received at City Hall and read aloud. The City received the following four bids: Contractor Base Bid Alternate #'i TOTAL Low- Northern Air Corporation $85,500 $2,700 $ 88,200 2- New Mech $92,900 $5,800 $ 98,700 3- BNM Construction Services $98,700 $5,000 $103,700 4- Total Mechanical Services $102,000 $2,200 $104,200 The base bid is the driveway and bleacher heating system and the alternate bid is to heat a smaller area directly in front of the maintenance doors (a 4 ft. x 23 foot section). POLICY OBJECTIVE The proposed project is consistent with providing safe facilities for all users, spectators and staff and to address safety issues as a high priority during the course of business. All bidding is consistent with Minnesota State Statute. FINANCIAL IMPLICATION The City has incurred tens of thousands of dollars of workers compensation costs over the past several years due to slips and falls. The estimated project cost was $80,000. The recommended low base bid and alternate #1 is $88,200. The money is proposed to be taken from the City Risk Management Fund. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Based on the bid results, staff recommends acceptance of the low base bid of $85,500 and alternate bid #'� of $2,700 from Northern Air Corporation for the installation of a heating system in the driveway, bleacher area and area directly in front of the maintenance doors at the Roseville Skatin� CenterlGuidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL. The contractor has supplied the necessary bond and is qualified to provide the necessary work. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED Motion authorizing the acceptance of low bid of $85,500 from Northern Air Corporation for the installation of a heating system in the driveway and bleacher area at the Roseville Skating CenterlGuidant John Rose Minnesota OVAL with the funds to be taken from the City Risk Management Fund. Motion authorizing the acceptance of alternate #1 for the installation of a heated concrete slab in front of the maintenance doors from Northern Air Corporation at a cost of $2,700 with funds to be taken from the City Risk Management Fund.
