City Council Regular Meeting —12/04/06 <br />DRAF7�' Minutes ' Page 11 <br />Roll C all <br />Ayes: Ihlan; Kough; Pust; Maschka and Klausing. <br />Nays: None. <br />Consider Items Removed from the Consent Agenda <br />3.f Approve Renewal of 2007 Janitorial Services Contract <br />for City Facilities (Removed from Consent Agenda for <br />Discussion). <br />At the request of Mayor Klausing, Interim City Manager <br />Chris Miller briefly reviewed staff s recommendation for <br />extension of the contract for janitorial services of City <br />facilities to Marsden Janitorial Service through February 9, <br />2009, as detailed in the Request for Council Action dated <br />December 4,2006. <br />Mr. Miller advised that staff and the public were happy with <br />Marsden staff, that the company was responsive to City <br />needs, providing additional cleaning as requested; and that <br />Price comparisons with similar firms remained comparable <br />to the market place. Mr. Miller advised that it was staffs <br />opinion that it would not be to the City's benefit cost-wise to <br />go out for bid at this time, given the competitiveness of the <br />current proposal. <br />Councilmember Ihlan clarified that this contract was entered <br />into several years ago to replace services provided by <br />employee positions being terminated; and noted that she had <br />voted for the contracted services reluctantly, based on staff <br />versus contractors, after being advised that there would be a <br />cost benefit to the City. Councilmember Ihlan requested <br />such a cost benefit analysis being provided in writing for <br />Councilmember consideration prior to considering extension <br />of the contract. <br />Public Works Director Duane Schwartz advised that staff <br />had determined that contracted labor represented a cost <br />savings, even though some needs remained unmet at the <br />skating center, but afforded advantages in daily and every <br />Items Removed <br />from the Consent <br />Agenda <br />Approve Renewal <br />of 2007 Janitorial <br />Services Contract <br />for City Facilities <br />
