chillers will allow more flexibilityin matching refrigeration demand swings and may make
this option more feasible.
Scope of Services
As Ice Rink Engineers and Consultants Stevens Engineers will provide the specialized design required for
renovating the existing chiller vessel and improving the monitoring and serviceability of the system.
Stevens Engineers will provide a step by step design approach as described below.
Included in this proposal is a separate fee for evaluating the option of installing a plate and frame chiller
type chiller system in place of reconditioning the existing shell and tube condensertype chiller system and
for evaluating the option of connecting the RSVC Arena's ice rink floor to the Oval's refrigerationsystem.
Step 9— Collect Information on Existing System
We will meet with the City staff to:
■ Discuss overall scope of the project
. Discuss history of problems with the refrigeration system.
. Discuss desired improvements to the refrigeration system.
■ Obtain a copy of the report regarding the chiller tube evaluation.
Obtain a copy of the record plans of the ice system.
■ Obtain a copy of the refrigeration equipment shop drawings.
■ Walk through the facility with City Staff.
■ Verify the accuracy of the shop drawings and record drawings of the refrigeration system.
Venfy the accuracy of the room layout and clearances around the chiller for replacing chiller tubes.
Step 2— Analysis and Evaluation
During this step we will:
Evaluate the information we gathered during the site visit.
■ Evaluate the feasibility of renovating the existing chiller vessel.
■ Write a letter report including and discussing the following:
Steps involved in the chiller renovation process including tube replacement, vessel shell
inspection and potential repair, and building modifications required for chiller tube access.
Options for renovation including standard steel tubes vs. stainless steel tubes, and any
other materials recommended by the manufacturer. Compare heat transfer efficiency, cost
and life cycle of each material.
, Advantages and disadvantages of renovating options vs. replacing the vessel including life
expectancy, efficiency and cost.
Estimate of probable construction costs for the chiller renovation.
Estimate of probable construction costs for a new chiller vessel.
Estimate of probable construction costs for system monitoring and servicing
improvements.
, Review testing results of the existing brine solution and recommend cleaning or
replacement.
Recommend routine testing procedures for the brine solution
Review the report with the City prior to finalizing the construction documents.
NY.
