chillers will allow more flexibility in matching refrigeration demand swings and may make
this pfion more feasible.
Scope of Services
As Ice Rink Engineers and ConsultantsStevens Engineers will provide the specialized design required fo
renovating the existing chiller vessel and improving the monitoring and serviceability of the sysim.
Stevens Engineers wl provide a step by step design approach as described below
Included in this proposal is a separate fee for evaluating the option of installing a plate and frame chiller
type chiller system in place of reconditioningthe existing shell and tube condensertype chillersystem and
for evaluating the option of connecting the RSVC Arena's ice rink floor to the Oval's refrigeration system.
Step f— Collectlnformation on Existing System
We will meet with the City staff to:
■ Discuss overall scope of the project
# Discuss Etory of problems with the refrigeration system.
Discuss desired improvements to the refrigeration system
■ Obtain a copy of the report regarding the chiller tube evaluation.
■ Obtain a copy of the record plans of the ice system.
■ Obtain a copy of the refrigeration equipment shp 1raw+ns.
Walk through the facility ifh City Staff.
■ Verify the accuracy of the shop drawings and record drawings of the refrigeration system.
* Verify the accuracy of the room layout and clearances around the chiller for replacing chiller tubes
Step 2 —Analysis and Evaluation
During this step we will:
Evaluate the information we gathered during the site visit.
Evaluate the feasibility of renovating the existing chillervessel.
Write a letter report including and discussing the following:
Steps involved in the chiller renovation process including tube replacement, vessel shell
inspckiar and potential repair, and building modifications required for chillertube access.
c Options for renovation including standard steel tubes vs, stainless steel tubes, and any
other materials recommended by the manufacturer. Compare heat transfer efficiency, cost
and life cycle of each material.
; Advantages and disadvantagesof renovating options vs. replacing the vessel including life
expectancy, efficiency and cost.
,; Estimate of probable construction costs for the chiller renovation.
,:: Estimate of probable constructioncosts for a new chiller vessel.
- Estimate of probable constructioncosts for system monitoring and srvicin
improvements.
ti Reviewtesting results of the existing brine soiutiqrr and recommend cleaning or
replacement.
- Recommend routine testing procedures for the brine solution
' Reviewthe reportwith the City priorto finalizingthe constructiondocuments.
Mr. Lonnie Brokke, Directorof Parks and Recreation
January 26,2005 Page 3 of 7
