(April 7,2005) — go Minnesota! and the Regional Council of Mayors
(RCM) today announced a joint public engagement campaign to push state leaders to
improve transportation options throughout Minnesota. The two organizations called for
urgent action to fix the "vexing" transportation problem that is harming economic growth and
quality of life in too many Minnesota cities. To stress the importance of this initiative and
their dedication to this issue, 35 mayors signed a bold policy statement urging the state
legislature and Governor Pawlenty to act urgently and pass a long-term, stable funding
package for transportation this year.
"We applaud the Regional Council of Mayors' strong leadership on improving transportation
options throughout Minnesota," said Charlie Ze[le, co-chair of go Minnesotal. "Already half
of the 2005 legislative session is behind us and we have yet to see a transportation solution
emerge from the State Capitol, and it is crucial that we continue to work together to urgently
engage Minnesotans on this important issue."
"The Regional Council of Mayors is excited to partner with go Minnesota! to send a clear
message to state leaders to fix our ailing transportation system," said Elizabeth Katz,
Mayor of Burnsville. "We aim to be a forum for regional mayors to work togetherto address
regional issues. Together we can hold our elected officials accountable. We cannot allow
them to come home this session without doing theirjob on transportation."
-more-
