you work through your thoughts and feelings about priorities for each department and, then, for
the City as a whole.
But this estimated cost should NOT be taken as gospeL Moreover, if you want the City to work
on any particular goal or priority or program at no additional cost to the City or at some lesser
net cost than is estimated, that is certainly possible. But then your fellow city Councilinembers
and city staff would need to know what existing City goal or program you believe should be de-
emphasized or eliminated in order to free up money to pay for the new or expanded goal or
program you prefer. A list of City programs or goals you think should be de-emphasized or
eliminated can definitely be part of this or future Council discussions. If you want to make it
part of this Council discussion, just note on the attached List the current City goal or program
that you want the Council to consider eliminating or de-emphasizing.
(I am not urging anyone to raise again the same policy issues that this Council has already
extensively discussed and has already decided. The Majority rules. I am not looking to beat
dead horses. I azn. looking for new horses, new initiatives and new goals for this Council to
consider and give direction on.)
If you think this might be a helpful approach, please revise the attached List so it includes all
goals and issues that are important to you, and get your priority rankizags of the items on the
revised List back to Margaret h kr noon on Wednesday, April 27. Then, Margaret would compile
your aggregate rankings for each department and for the City as a whole and put it in your
Council packet for you to discuss at your May 9`' Council Meeting
To Recap, if you think this approach might be helpful, Please:
1. Add any goals or priorities you think should be on the list of `Big Issues" that is
attached.
2. Prioritize what you see as the top 3 issuesfor each departrnerit.
3. Prioritize what you see as the top 6 to 10 issues overallfor the City.
4. Get your ranking form back to Margaret by nnfln on Wednesday, April 27.
- .
 - .
2
