City Council Regular Meeting — 04/25/OS <br />DRAFT Minutes - Page 7 <br />mcrease. <br />Ms. Gunard sought Council support of the School District's <br />ability to keep the Fairview Community Center open and <br />operating. <br />Ms. Gunard spoke to traffic and safety of children in the <br />area of Brimhall School, and increased traffic with the <br />Twin Lakes Redevelopment project; opined that the City <br />did not need any more retail, but needed safe places for the <br />community's children. Ms. Gunard strongly encouraged <br />the City Council to vote in opposition to the proposed Twin <br />Lakes project. <br />John Leatherman, 3013 N Simpson <br />Mr. Leatherman noted that he was speaking on his own <br />behalf, not as a representative of his employer, the theater <br />at Crossroads Mall. Mr. Leatherman opined that if a <br />theater was added to �osedale Shopping Center, he and his <br />co-workers, along with those employed at .HarMar Theater, <br />would be out of a job. Mr. Leatherman spoke to the <br />increased police and safety issues and costs related to a <br />larger theater complex, in addition to increased traffic <br />issues in the area. <br />Richard Osborne, 2172 N Victoria <br />Mr. Osborne spoke to the negative impacts of the proposed <br />Twin Lakes Redevelopmentproject on a local level, as well <br />as the national and global economy. Mr. Osborne opined <br />that "big box" retailers destroyed a family's wage base, <br />thus destroying the American family, and impacts of huge <br />corporations may be attractive in the short-term, but didn't <br />justify the long-term impacts. Mr. Osborne requested <br />Councilmembers to vote the project down, and do their part <br />locally to help fix the global economic picture. <br />John Kysylyczyn, 3083 N Victoria Street <br />Mr. Kysylyczyn provided, for public information, his <br />personal statistics on City Council operations and the <br />amount of City business being conducted. <br />
