Missior�li�istory <br />The inissiar� of Roscville Parks and Recreation is to benefit the citizens of Roscville through the planning, <br />development, promotiot� and supervision of a variety of activities and facilities of sufficient quality and <br />quantity to meet community preference and needs. <br />Roseville Parks and Rec�reatioz� has beei� in existence since tlle early 1960's and has been a partner and <br />supporter of the arts since its inception. The City of Roseville believes the quality of life in a coinmunity <br />and the appreciation for and th.e respect of individuals is directly improved through arts participation <br />and/or arts audience involvement. During the past 5 years, Roseville Parks and Recreation has taken an <br />active role in t��e organization, development, facilitation a�ad support of a wide range of arts organizations <br />and arts experiences. A sampling of recent artistic Experiences includes; <br />• Yearround theater performances produced &presented by the Rosetown Playhouse. <br />• Roseville Coi�nlnui�ity Band and Roseville Big Band. <br />• Rose of Many Colors n�inz grant pro�ran-� facilitating wide range of arts ex�eriences. <br />• Tapioca Players an improvisation theater troupe for middle and high school agc ai�kists. <br />• Dance classes for youth, adults and seniors. <br />• Music lessons for youth and seniors. <br />• Creative arts classes for youth. <br />• Drama cam�s for youth. <br />• Roseville Area Arts Council supporting connnunity arts endeavors. <br />Community involvement in the development of local arts activities includes: <br />• A collaboration resulting in the development of the Roseville Area Arts Council. <br />• The addition of public art in the Roseville parks system. <br />� The extensive support of community theater troupes. <br />• A partnership with t�,e Ramsey Center for �t to engage the community in art. <br />• The management of two mini-grant programs that allowed area artists to express their artistic talents <br />and foster community access to and involvement in arts activities. <br />Community NeedlSupport <br />Roseville is a first ring suburb — a mature community where tree-lined streets lead to established <br />neighborhoods and established, solid commercial development. Roseville is a co��unity concerned with <br />its environment--- providing ample open space, preserving its wooded areas and protecting its shorelines. <br />Roseville is a coxa��rkunily that equally ezx�b�'aces the arts and athletics — allowing opportunities to support <br />and participate in a wide range of leisure endeavors for residents and g�csts of all ages. The best <br />definition of Roseville involves tl�.e people — i�: is a city where the needs and concerns of both residents <br />and the business community matter. Roseville is a city wherepeople r�2alze the �rff��'erace. <br />Residents of Roseville have long e1�}oyec� the stability, diversity, and friendliness of strong, safe <br />neighborhoods. These neighborhoods foster strong community spirit and voluz��eez�sn� i�l Roseville. <br />Roseville population is older than inost suburbs. Forty percent of all homes have a household head over the <br />age of 55. As housing becomes available, mid-career, two i��coine families with grade school and �nicidle <br />school children move into Roseville. And they are staying, creating a stable community. The 2000 census <br />shows that the minority population in Roseville has grown fi-om 5% in 1990 to 10. 5%. <br />The City of Roseville offers its residents a wide array of services. Roseville tries to go beyond merely <br />delivering services. It strives to educate, zz��oi�. and involve residents in the operations of and �1�� <br />opportunities within the City. The City's efforts in this area have placed it among an elite group when z� <br />come� to national �-ecogl�itioi� for its departments and services. Roseville Parks and Recreation is one <br />such nationally r�eog��.ized organization.
