Jill Anfang also provided a"typical" ice rental week schedule for the
OVAL. Bill Cushman from Midway speedskating noted their club had provided a lot of
revenue to the OVAL over the years and that several World Cup competitions and other
events had brought in a lot of revenue to the city alsa Their club pulls in skaters from all
over the state and western Wisconsin, with a membership of approximately 60 adult
skaters and 150-200 novice skaters every year. Bill also provided some financial
information from the Salt Lake City speedskating facility and the Petit Center near
Milwaukee. The Salt Lake facility loses money every year and is dependent on public
programs for support, the Petit Center was "built" in 2002 and expects to make a net
profit since it is now a domed facility and can offer more services than before, but despite
the donations for the building of the Center there is still inventory to maintain and a debt
to be serviced so it may be some years before they see a net profit.
Lori Larson spoke about the importance of the Skating Center to RA`YHA. She noted
that while there are several indoor rinks the organization can use for team practices they
have noticed that the ability to have several tears practicing together on the 4 rinks at the
OVAL has created a sense of camaraderie that was missed this past season when they
weren't able to have as many practices at the OVAL. It was also noted that there is
increasing interest in bringing hockey back outdoors and that other cities are looking into
artificial means of freezing rinks to guarantee outdoor hockey games — bandy has been
asking these cities to consider freezing larger sheets for bandy use as we1L The
possibility of bringing in dasher boards that could be easily set up and removed at the
OVAL was also discussed.
Because time was getting late we decided to adjourn for the evening and continue in two
weeks beginning with a tour of the facility, maybe inviting our state legislators to join us.

ATTACHMENT 15
Task Force Meeting Minutes
