REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 6120105 <br />ITEM NO: S.b <br />Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />�� � � �� <br />Item Description: Authorization for the Repair and Upgrades of the Refri�eration <br />System at the Roseville Skating CenterlJahn Rose Minn�sota <br />OVAL Utilizing Funds from the Friends of the OVAL <br />Foundation (FOF) <br />BACKGROUND <br />On March 21 the City Council approved moving forward with an engineering study <br />of the Roseville Skating Center (RSC). On May 9th the City Council heard the <br />results and authorized development of bid documents and to advertise for bids for <br />repairs and upgrades to the refrigeration system at the RSC—John Rose Minnesota <br />OVAL. <br />The next step in the process is to authorize the necessary work to be completed. <br />Specifically, the work includes: <br />. Total re-tube of the chiller barrel <br />Replacement of the brine in the system (24% calcium chloride) <br />Repair of brine pump seals and impellors <br />Repair of peripheral support structures as well as including new and <br />improved monitoring equipment. <br />The estimated time frame for the completion of repairs comes close to next <br />_ season's start (see attached schedule). It is critical to begin work now, taking the <br />_ first step of obtaining City Council authorization to proceed. <br />BID PROCESS <br />After the completion of the bidding documents, public notice was published on <br />May 24, 2005. A pre-bid meeting was held at �0:00 a.m. on June 2, 2005 at the <br />Roseville Skating Center. At this meeting a site inspection was conducted and all <br />bid documents were reviewed. <br />
