Rick Schiiz
Roseville offers a wide variety of programs, recreation
facilities and special events to meet the needs and
interests of area residents. I n 2004, the recreation staff
offered over 750 programs, managed a variety of facilities
and coordinated 28 special events. Staff continue to look
for ways to improve programs, enhance facilities, jazz-up
special events to involve people of all ages and from all
corners of the community.
• ' ••J/1
lL •
.. •{• ::  -  ,
 M1
 ;. .. `
,:`'':• -
y.: - - _ i
 - r
 - n-; . Seasonal events `r`- - - -
include; Spring Celebration, DiscoverYour Parks, Rosefest and July " Party in the Park,
Halloween Spook-tacular, Holiday Carnival, Wild Rice Festival and RoseArt Fest. Without the
help of thousands of volunteers, these special events would not be possible. For example,
the Run/Roll for the Roses has the support 100 volunteers assisting staff to ensure a safe,
fun event.
Area businesses and civic groups contribute to events with monetary support, prizes and
volunteers. The Roseville Police and Fire Departments provide logistics advice, support,
and sometimes staff. The programs and special events bring the community together and
help make Roseville a place where "there's always something to da".
Volunteers continue to play a vital role in our recreation programs. Over 600 invitations
were sent out to volunteers for our annual volunteer appreciation night, held in February at
the Skating Center. All ages of volunteers have assisted us with numerous events and
programs over the years. We also appreciate all of the assistance we receive from our
cultural arts, youth athletics, and adult affiliated groups.
One of the Recreation Division 2004 goals was to increase marketing and publicity of
programs and facilities. Staff focused on utilizing targeted mailings, maximizing visibility
with timely posting of flyers and distributing information throughout the city, and increased
visibility through news releases and cable television. V look forward to using our new
recreation registration system to utilize broadcast E-mails and also target neighborhoods for
mailings to expand our marketing efforts.
Report from Recreation Programs Supervisor, Roxann Maxey
Preschool pfferings
Increased programming began with the addition of a preschool series. Summer preschool
programs reflect established offerings provided for older youth, including;
o"therned playground program" with an age appropriate twist to accommodate
preschool families. Expanded program locations offered in neighborhood parks that
have play structures designed specifically for this age group.
o create program curriculums to coincide with the theory of play, community, and
relationship building that is so important to preschool development.
o focus on fun.
o encourage the development of large and small motor skills, encouraged socialization
with the opportunity to meet new friends, and learn something new.
3
