fi
This was an exciting year for the Harriet Alexander Nature Center. Many important
changes and improvements were implemented with impressive results. With operations
closer to optimal and a more diverse volunteer base, HANC can look forward to discovering
a greater potential for environmental education and service to the Roseville community.
ilrC n_.f...m,.iti
HANC's Advisory Committee was reconstituted in May, which had recently become
dormant. This new committee began by revising guidelines and slightly restructuring its
organization. Its mission is "to provide the Lead Naturalist with recommendations for
HANC's operations, including special projects and programming. It is also to serve as an
advocate for HANC's many volunteers and to help communicate with the community about
HANC activities, programs, and needs." The Advisory Committee consists of fourteen
members, including: HANC Naturalist, Parks & Recreation Assistant Director, FORHANC
President, Interest Area Representatives(i.e. AdministrativeSupport, Fhibits, Gardens,
Natural Resources, Programs, Projects, Public Relations, & Social), and two at-large
members. The group meets once a month throughout the year.
9Proqrmrnir umrraarv, Report
Program participation at HANC increased 10% in 2004, demonstrating an increased
visibility from determined programming and marketing efforts. The bulk of this increase
came from three sources: birthday parties, building rentals, and day camps. Birthday
parties are popular because parents prefer the ease of turning their party group over to our
naturalists, then going home to a clean house. When children attend a party that offers
the stimulation and novelty of our naturalist programs, they often ask to have their own
parties here. These same children have also started to register for day camps offered
during MEA week and Spring and Summer Breaks. Building rentals seem to also encourage
repeat customers. Once a group discovers HANC's relaxing atmosphere and lovely views, it
often returns for subsequent affairs and encourages others by word-of-mouth to use our
splendid site. Over the course of 2004, HANC developed a community following which will
hopefully lead to further beneficial relationships for the success of the nature center.
Rragrarn rpe
h crl I •la inr
_. ,t,tstr r r
Quir3Ch
ClICS
--mm❑nr.
IIrikday Partis
f#r rht,c,l
rl Is
]k'CC EI.rcin
. fy 1-sms _
Tvl.al .—

--: Prrans
_ .. .

7
.
11
1S
' — c
'
_ _ 34
 P ro rm Partll nt
i0kl Iner T tiSrrint; . LSi i
G€5 i 39
--- .–-- - ; _ F j —
5

34

 ?{H5
-- —'
5

lU9
. ? :
13
 '
--- 3
._ .-
75
J '
ti I
i
}
37

Q ; ,r
130 _.. _.. 17
5 14
E77 L35

 I 0
100 il
t o
o ' .. i.
79 i301
