Public Works Department/Engineering
emo
To: NealBeets, CityManager
From: Duane Schwartz, Public Works Director
Date: 811112005
Re: Non-MotorizedTransportation Pilot Program
We have been followixg information coming out about the recently passed Federal Transportation
Bill. One program we have identified that may have some potential for Roseville is the Ncn-
motorized Transportation Pilot Program. Very little information is available at this point on
the disbursement of the 25 million dollars earmarked for the Twin Cities Area.
What we have learned is that the projects funded will need to document an increase in
bicycle/pedestrian mode share. This would indicate a need to cooperate across jurisdictional
boundariesto meet the programs objectives.Preliminaryinformationalso indicates the money
will become available in October of 2006 and may not require a local match. It is not clear
what agency will administer the program. It may be Transit for Livable Communities rather
than M1/DQ` or Met Council, or it may be a j oint committee of these agencies.
We will get on mailing lists of groups working in this area and follow up on future
developments.
 Page 1
