City Council Regular Meeting — 09/26/OS
DRAFT Minutes - Page 2
look into the issue and maXe recommendations for
resolution to the City Council.
Mr. Duffy specifically addressed left turns across traffic;
the serious injury of a young person at that intersection last
year; and near-accidents with vehicular traffic. Mr. Duffy
noted that he had contacted Deb Bloom and Duane
Schwartz of City staff, and temporary solutions (cutting
back brush and mowing the boulevard) had been done, but
the problem was ongoing and needed long-term resolution.
Mr. Duffy noted that he had met Mr. Schwartz at the
location during rush hour traffic, and they had walked the
area and observed the issues, as well as others in the
vicinity of Acorn Park. Mr. Duffy further noted that during
that walk through, Mr. Schwartz had recommended that
several branches from a Jacl Pine owned by the property
owner on the southeast comer of Fisk needed to be
removed. Mr. Schwartz suggested several other long-term
solutions (i.e., reconfiguration of County Road C with turn
lanes; traffic light installation at the comer).
Mr. Duffy noted that the petitioners had eagerly signed at
National Night Out activities; and offered to assist and
participate in any studies directed or if further citizen
involvement or fundraising was required.
Councilmember Kough noted that this was just one of the
areas that would be appropriate for his latest initiative,
"ADOPT-A-SPOT," for private citizens to take ownership
and responsibility in identifying and providing assistance to
the City for routine maintenance of specific areas.
Councilmember Kough noted that he had scheduled the
first meeting for "ADOPT-A-SPOT" for Monday, October
3, 2005 at 7:Oa p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
Mayor Klausing directed staff to lool{ into the situation as
outlined in the petition and make 'coza, edatos to the
City Council for a permanent solution if one was available.
Mr. Duffy again thanked staff for their attention and quick
response time to his calls.
