REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
t :Lrprrc: Manager Reviewed:
_ '
DATE: I r,' i r
ITEM {'.:F f
Agenda Section:
Consent

Item Description: Final contract acceptance of Victoria Street Storm Sewer Project
Background: Victoria Street Storm Sewer Improvements Contract was awarded to Meyer Contracting,
Tnc., of Forest Lake, Minnesota on May 9, 2005. The storm sewer pipe installation was completed in
June. All final punch list items have been completed, and the contractor has requested final payment.
The Victoria Street Storm Sewer project consisted entirely of construction of stonn sewer to improve
drainage along Victoria Street for the property owners that live adj acent to the road.
Policy objectives: City policy requires that the following items be completed to finalize a construction
contract:
Certification from the City Engineer verifying that all of the work has been completed in accordance
with plans and specifications.
• A resolution by the City Council accepting the contract and beginning the one-year warranty
Financial implications: The final contract amount, $55,487.00 is $4,458 less than the awarded amount
of $59,945.00. This represents a decrease in contract of approximately 7.8%. The decrease was due to
actual quantities for this project being lower than estimated.
The costs for this contract will be shared 50150 with Ramsey County. This cost share practice is based
on Ramsey County assuming responsibility for drainage of their right-of-way and the City assuming
responsibility for the private property drainage. The city's share of the cost ($27,743.50) will be
financed using storm utility funds. The City will invoice Ramsey County for their share of this project.
Staff recommendation: All necessary items have been completed in accordance with proj ect plans and
specifications. Since all items have been completed as outlined in the policy regarding final contract
acceptance, staff recommends the City Council approve a resolution accepting the work completed as
Victoria Street Storm Sewer Project and authorizing final payment of $2,774.5. The total amountpaid
for Victoria Street Stonn Sewer Project is 55,487.00.
RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:
Approval of a resolution accepting the work completed as Victoria Street Storm Sewer Project, starting
the one-year warranty and authorizing final payment of $4,458.
Prepared by: Debra Bloom
