<br />SECTION 201
<br />GENERAL
<br />2011 Scope. Unless otherwiseexpressly stated, thefollowing
<br />terms shall, for fhe purposes of this code, I�ave the meanings
<br />shown in this chapter.
<br />201.2 Interchangeability. Words stated in the present tense in-
<br />clude the future: words stated in the masculine gender include
<br />the feminine and neuter; the singular nutx��er IP�' ��'{I�x the plu-
<br />ral and the plural, the singular.

<br />Code, such terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them as in
<br />those codes.
<br />�q1.�#'iler�s notde�ined. Where terms arenotdefined through
<br />the methads authorized by this secrion, such terms shall ha�e
<br />ordinarily accepted meanings such as the context implies.
<br />201.5 Parts. Whenever thp words "dwelling uirir' "dwelling:'
<br />"premises," "building," "rooming house:' "rooming unit"
<br />�"housekeeping unit" or "story" are stated in this code, they
<br />shall be construed as though they were followed by the words
<br />"or any pan thereof."
<br />SECTION 202
<br />GENERAL DEFINITIONS
<br />APPROVED. Approved by the code official.
<br />BASEMENT. That portion of a building which is partly or
<br />completely below grade.
<br />BATHROOM. A room containing plumbing fixtures includ-
<br />ing a bathtub or shower.
<br />BEDROOM. Any room or space used or intended to be used
<br />for sleeping purposes.
<br />CODE OFFICIAL. The q�'tcia� who is charged with the ad-
<br />ministrarion and enforcement of this code, or any duly autho-
<br />rized representarive.
<br />CONDEMN. To adjudge unfit for occupancy.
<br />DWELLING UNIT. A single unit pcavi�ing complete, inde-
<br />pendent living faciliries for one or more persons, including per-
<br />manent provisions for living, sleeping, eating, cooking and
<br />sanitarion.
<br />EASEMENT. That portion of land or properry reserved for
<br />present or future use by aperson or agency other than the legal
<br />feenwn.er(s}of theproperty. The easement shall bepermittedto
<br />he for use under, on or above a said lot or lots.
<br />EXTERIOR PROPERTY. Tite open space on the premises
<br />andonacEjoi€izng�� �r.riritndes-thecontrolofownersoropera-
<br />tors of such premises.
<br />�:XT�RMII4A�'�'IQN. The control and elimina�ion of insects,
<br />rats or other pests by eliminaring their harborage places: by re-
<br />moving or making inaccessible materials that serve as their
<br />food; by poison spraying, fumigaring, trapping or by any oCher
<br />approved pest eliminarion methods.
<br />GARBAGE. The animal or vegetable waste resulring frnn� the
<br />handling, prept�r�[ion, cooking and consumption of food.
<br />GUARD. A building component or a system of building com-
<br />ponents located at or tteat' the open sides of elevated walking
<br />surfaces that minimizes ihe possibiliry of a fall from the walk-
<br />ing sut#ace to a lower level.
<br />HABITABLE SPACE. Space in a structure for living, sleep-
<br />ing, earing or cooking. Bathrooms, toilet rooms, closets, ha11s,
<br />storage or uriliry spaces, and similar areas are not considered
<br />habitable spaces.

<br />living, sleeping, cooking and earing which does not contain, I
<br />within such a unit, a toilet, lavatory and batbtub or shower.
<br />IMMINENT DANGER. A condition which could cause se�'k-
<br />ous or life-threatening injury or death at any rime.
<br />INFF�$TATION. The presence, within or conriguous to, a
<br />structure or premises of insects, rats, vermin or other pests.
<br />INOPERABLE MOTOR VEHICLE. A vehicle which can-
<br />not be driven upon the pubtic streets for reason including but

<br />LABELED. Devices, equipment, appliances, or materials to
<br />which has been afrixed a label, seal, symbol or other idenrify-
<br />ing mark of a narionally recognized testing laboratory, inspeo-
<br />rion agency or other organizarion concerned with product
<br />evaluarion that maintains periodic inspecrionof th� producrion
<br />of the above-labeled items and by whose label the manufac-
<br />turer attests to compliance w'ifh applicable nationally recog-
<br />nized standards.
<br />LET FOR OCCUPANCY OR LET. To parrnit, provide or of-
<br />fer possession or occupancy of a dwelling, dwelling unit,
<br />rooming unit, building, premise or structureby aperson who is
<br />or is not the legal owner of record Chereof, gursua�tt to a written
<br />or unwritten lease, agreement or license, or pursuant to a xe-
<br />corded orunrecorded ag¢'eert�esttofcontractforthesaleof land.
<br />OCCUPANCY. The purpose for which a building or portion
<br />thereof is urilized or occupied.
<br />OCCUPANT. Any individual living or sleeping in a building,
<br />or ha�ing possession of a space within a building.
