CHAPTER6 <br />MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS <br />SECTION 601 <br />GENERAL <br />601.1 Sco�e. The pmvisions of this chapter shall govern the <br />minimum mechanicak �nd electricalfacilities and equipment to <br />be provided. <br />601.2 Responsibility. The owner of the structure shall provide <br />and maintain mechanical and electrical facilities and equip- <br />ment in compliance with th�se req uirements.A person sha]I not <br />occupy as owner-occugant or permit another person to occupy <br />any premises which does not comply with the requirements of <br />this chapter. <br />SECTION 602 <br />HEAT�NG FACILITIES <br />6021Facilitiesrequired. Heatingfacilitiesshallheprovided <br />in structures as required by this section. <br />602.2 Residential occupancies. Coaking appliances shall not he used to nrovide soace <br />heating to meet the requirements of this section. <br />Exception: In areas where the average monthly temperature <br />is above 30°F (-1°C). a minimum temperature of 65°F <br />(18°C) shall be maintained. <br />602.3 Heat supply. Every owner and operatorof any building <br />who rents, leases or lets one or more dwelling unit, rooming <br />unit, dormitory or guestroom on terms, either expressed or im- <br />plied, to furnish heat to the occupants thereof shall supply heat <br />during the period from [DATEJ to [DATE] to maintain a tempera- <br />ture o� not less than 68°F (2fi°C} in atl habitable rooms, bath- <br />rooms, and toilet rooms. <br />Exceptions: <br />When the outdoor temperature is below the winter <br />outdoor design temperature for the locality, mainte- <br />nance of the minimum room temperature shall not be <br />req uired provided that the heating system is operating <br />at its full design capacity. Processing, storage and operation areas that require <br />cooling or special temperature conditions. <br />2. Areas in which persons arc prima�il� engaged in vig- <br />orous physical activities. <br />602.5 Rqn�n temperature measurement. The required room <br />temperature sshaL[ he measured 3 feet (914 rr�m) dt�ove the floor <br />near the center of the room and 2 feet (610 mm) inward from <br />the center of each exterior wall. <br />SECTION 603 <br />MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT <br />6031 Mechanical appliances. All mechanical appliances, <br />fireplaces, solid fuel-burning appliances, cnnlcing appliances <br />and wafer heating appliances shall be properly installed and <br />mainta€ned 'zn a safe working condition,and shall becapable of <br />Pezforzning the intended function. <br />603.2 Removal of combustion products. All fuel-burning <br />equipment and applranccs shall be connected to an approved <br />chimney or vent. <br />Exception: Fuel-hundngequipmentand appliances which <br />are labeled for unvented operation. <br />603.3 Clearances. All required clearancesto combustiblema; <br />terials shall he maintained. <br />603.4 Safety controls. All safety controls for fuel-burning <br />equipment shall be maintained in effective operation. <br />603.5 Combustion air. A supply of air for complete combus- <br />tion of the fuel and for ventilation of the space containingthe <br />fuel-burningequipment shall be provided for the fuel-burning <br />equipment. <br />603.6 Energy conservation devices. Devices intended to re- <br />duce fuel consumption by attachmentto a fuel-burning appli- <br />ance, to the fuel supply line thereto, or to the ventoutletor vent <br />piping therefrom, shall not be installed unless labeled for such <br />purposeandthe installationis specificallyapproved. <br />SECTION 604 <br />ELECTRICAL FACILITIES <br />2.
