CHAPTER6 MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS SECTION 601 GENERAL 601.1 Sco�e. The pmvisions of this chapter shall govern the minimum mechanicak �nd electricalfacilities and equipment to be provided. 601.2 Responsibility. The owner of the structure shall provide and maintain mechanical and electrical facilities and equip- ment in compliance with th�se req uirements.A person sha]I not occupy as owner-occugant or permit another person to occupy any premises which does not comply with the requirements of this chapter. SECTION 602 HEAT�NG FACILITIES 6021Facilitiesrequired. Heatingfacilitiesshallheprovided in structures as required by this section. 602.2 Residential occupancies. Coaking appliances shall not he used to nrovide soace heating to meet the requirements of this section. Exception: In areas where the average monthly temperature is above 30°F (-1°C). a minimum temperature of 65°F (18°C) shall be maintained. 602.3 Heat supply. Every owner and operatorof any building who rents, leases or lets one or more dwelling unit, rooming unit, dormitory or guestroom on terms, either expressed or im- plied, to furnish heat to the occupants thereof shall supply heat during the period from [DATEJ to [DATE] to maintain a tempera- ture o� not less than 68°F (2fi°C} in atl habitable rooms, bath- rooms, and toilet rooms. Exceptions: When the outdoor temperature is below the winter outdoor design temperature for the locality, mainte- nance of the minimum room temperature shall not be req uired provided that the heating system is operating at its full design capacity. Exceptions: 1. Processing, storage and operation areas that require cooling or special temperature conditions. 2. SECTION 603 MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT 6031 Mechanical appliances. All mechanical appliances, fireplaces, solid fuel-burning appliances, cnnlcing appliances and wafer heating appliances shall be properly installed and mainta€ned 'zn a safe working condition,and shall becapable of Pezforzning the intended function. 603.2 Removal of combustion products. All fuel-burning equipment and applranccs shall be connected to an approved chimney or vent. Exception: Fuel-hundngequipmentand appliances which are labeled for unvented operation. 603.3 Clearances. All required clearancesto combustiblema; terials shall he maintained. 603.4 Safety controls. All safety controls for fuel-burning equipment shall be maintained in effective operation. 603.5 Combustion air. A supply of air for complete combus- tion of the fuel and for ventilation of the space containingthe fuel-burningequipment shall be provided for the fuel-burning equipment. 603.6 Energy conservation devices. Devices intended to re- duce fuel consumption by attachmentto a fuel-burning appli- ance, to the fuel supply line thereto, or to the ventoutletor vent piping therefrom, shall not be installed unless labeled for such purposeandthe installationis specificallyapproved.
