BACKGROUND
This was presented at your October 10,2005, Council Meeting.
To recap: the State Legislature requires you to adopt by the end of this year an out-of-state
travel policy governing councilmembers. The League of Minnesota Cities has promulgated a
"model policy" complying with state law. On October 1f'r'r we heard Councilmembers voice
support for the League's model policy, to include the "optional" paragraphs suggested by the
League and some minor tweaks such as the reasonable cost of ineals being reimbursed rather
than setting a specific amount since the amount may vary depending on where the
travel/ training occurs.
The attached Resolution contains the League's model policy including optional provisions.
II. REia'i.)'ST
Council motion adopting the attached Resolution establishing an Out-of-State Travel Policy for
City Councilmembers.
