Depa� ent Approval <br />a� <br />l�'�, <br />Jy <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Date: 9-14-09 <br />Item No.: 12.c <br />City Manager Approval <br />� / <br />Item Description: Community Development Department Request to Perform a City <br />Abatement for Unresolved Violation of City Code at 1350 Ryan Street. <br />BACKGROUND <br />• The subject property is a single family home. <br />• The current owners are Charles and Marguerite Suzicky. <br />• Current violations include: <br />• Approximately 15 black bags full of leaves piled in the front and side yard. (Violation of <br />City Code Section 407.02.D). <br />• A status update, including pictures, will be provided at the public hearing. <br />POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />The City goals within the Comprehensive Plan are to protect and improve property values (Goal 3, 4, <br />and 5; page 6 and, Section 3) and to adhere to performance standards which protect the integrity of the <br />housing units and the neighborhood (Policy 6, page 8, Section 3). <br />FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />City Abatement: <br />An abatement would encompass the following: <br />• Removing approximately 15 black bags full of dead vegetation and hauling them to a <br />disposal site: <br />o Approximately - $250.00 <br />• Total: Approximately - $250.00. <br />In the short term, costs of the abatement will be paid out of the HRA budget, which has allocated <br />$100,000 for abatement activities. The property owner will then be billed for actual and administrative <br />costs. If charges are not paid, staff is to recover costs as specified in Section 407.075.
