Department Approval <br />��. �: �t <br />Item Description: <br />l�'�, <br />Jy <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />2010 Sudget Prioritization Process - Phase #1 <br />Date: 10/12/09 <br />Item No.: 13 . a <br />City Manager Approval <br />� / <br />BACKGROUND <br />On September 14, 2009, the City Council adopted a preliminary, non-to-exceed, property t� levy for 2010. <br />In adopting this preliminary levy, it was understood that the Council would conduct a series of additional <br />budget-related meetings to establish funding priorities and to make final spending decisions before the <br />annual truth-in-t�ation meeting. <br />In support of this effort, the City Council established the following additional meetings: <br />Date <br />October 12, 2009 <br />October 19, 2009 <br />November 9, 2009 <br />November 16, 2009 <br />December 7, 2009 <br />December 21, 2009 <br />2010 Budget Meeting Schedule <br />Topic / Purpose <br />Prioritization session — Phase I <br />Prioritization session — Phase I (tentative) <br />Prioritization session — Phase II <br />Finalize 2010 T� Levy and Sudget <br />Truth in T�ation Hearing <br />Adopt Final 2010 Sudget and T� Levy <br />Est. <br />Duration <br />2 Hours <br />1 Hour <br />2 Hours <br />1 Hour <br />1 Hour <br />1 Hour <br />As noted in a previous communication, it is suggested that the first prioritization session be structured in a <br />way that allows the Council to prioritize all city programs inde�endent of the costs or service levels <br />associated with those programs. This ensures that on a fundamental level, programs that are valued the <br />most are ranked the highest.
