The Uptown Small Area Plan is a
Master Plan for a mixed-use district
in Minneapolis. The Plan contains
architectural and open space guidelines
for all new development. The
Architectural Guidelines are based on
five character areas. The character areas
were created in order to celebrate the
eclecric quality of Uptown, leveraging
their individual and unique qualities.
Each character area las its own set of
building types, building heights, uses,
and architectural expressions.
The Open Space Guidelines create a
series of connected open spaces, rather
than a single large open space. The
approach relies on enhancing exisring
streets with landscaping and wider
sidewalks and locaring new urban open
paces (plazas, winter gardens, courryards,
and forecourts) along the streets and at
critical locarions throughout Uptown
such as adjacent to public buildings, in
front of theatres and other venues.
