l',
Jy
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Department Approval
Date: 10/26/2009
Item No.: 5.c
City Manager Approval
Item Description: Recognize Roseville Genisys Credit Union for their 2009 Rose Parade Title
Sponsorship
BACKGROUND
The City of Roseville Parks and Recreation Department is extremely fortunate to have many
generous sponsors who throughout the year support events, programs, services and facilities in
our community.
The annual cost of the popular Rose Parade is $15,000. All direct expenses are covered by funds
raised by volunteers through event sponsorships, donations as well as parade unit entry fees.
In 2009, Genisys Credit Union opened an office in Roseville and approached the Parks and
Recreation Department about possible opportunities to sponsor Parks and Recreation activities in
the community. After exploring a variety of opportunities Roseville Genisys Credit Union
enthusiastically agreed to a$2,500 title sponsorship for the 2009 Rose Parade.
Contributions like this provide opportunities that truly enhance the quality of life in Roseville.
We are very thankful for the many community partners and appreciate Genisys Credit Union's
involvement in Roseville Parks and Recreation.
POLICY OBJECTIVE
The proposed policy is consistent with the approved budget goals that the department works to
leverage outside funding sources for the support of the operations of departmental activities.
BUDGET IMPLICATIONS
The annual Rose Parade is not directly funded through the Parks and Recreation budget. The
volunteer organizing committee is charged with planning an event that pays all direct costs that
are solicited from sponsors, donors and participants.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Sased on the significance of this financial sponsorship contribution, staff recommends that the City
Council recognize Roseville Genisys Credit Union for their noteworthy sponsorship of the 2009
Rose Parade.
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION
Prepared by: Jill Anfang, Parks and Recreation Assistant Director
Page 1 of 1
