Chair David Singleton; and Commissioners Peg Kennedy; Marie <br />9 Oftelie; Gary Grefenberg; Liz Jaeger; Thelma McKenzie; and <br />10 Barbara Yates. <br />11 <br />12 Commissioners Excused: None. <br />13 <br />14 Others Present: Communications Specialist Carolyn Curti and Recording Secretary <br />15 Sheila Stowell <br />16 <br />17 I. Approve Minutes of September 8, 2009 <br />18 Member Grefenberg provided a bench handout with three (3) requested revisions and/or <br />19 additions to the September 8, 2009 meeting minutes. <br />20 <br />21 Amendment 1, Page 4, Lines 23 - 23 <br />22 Suggested to read as follows: <br />23 "Member Grefenberg expressed his concern in addressing not only cultural, but l~ifes~le <br />24 [other forms ofJ diversity, in the community as well; and questioned if the cultural <br />25 complementary model should be the focus for future forums; further q~~g whether <br />26 ~ [every norm in allJ cultures nee~lecJ-to be accommodated." <br />27 <br />28 Amendment 2, Page 4, Line 39 <br />29 Suggested to read as follows: <br />30 "Member Grefenberg addressed recent alleged discrimination activities in the Anoka- <br />31 Hennepin School District ~ [byJ certain teaching staff; and sought input from <br />32 individual HRC members related to local school district provisions." <br />33 <br />34 Amendment 3, Page 5, Line 7 <br />35 Suggested addition of a new paragraph as follows: <br />36 [Member Grefenberg noted he was uncomfortable with the fact that one of the <br />37 committee members planning the "Creating a Welcoming Community" Dialogue <br />38 represented Northwestern College, an institution which he understood did not welcome <br />39 gay or lesbian students or employees. (Grefenberg later clarified that the Northwestern <br />40 College representative had not participated so far in the committee's discussions).) <br />41 <br />42 Members discussed suggested Amendment #3 and whether the additional statement was <br />43 indicated. <br />44 <br />
