REQUEST FOR COUNCIL DISCUSSION/DIRECTION DATE: O 1/12/04 ITEl�1 2VC�= �, Department Approval: Agenc�a �eGtiOri: nPW �� i'��9��N— Item Description: Amendments to text of City Code 1.0 BACKGROUND: At the Council meeting on January 26,2004 siY ordinances will be offered for first reading. These amendments originated with staff and have been written by staff. The revisions are mostly new organization, formatting and modernization of tern�s to the various sections of the Code. This has been a long process, begun in 1998-99, with a directive from Council and Planning Commission to modemize the current (1959) land use codes, making them more user friendly and resolving inconsistencies. The City Attorney has been reviewing these and has kept up with the changes recommended by the Commissions. All six have been reviewed at public hearings and received a Planning Commission or Park Commission recommendation of approval. The proposed ordinance and the strike-out versions are attached. They include: �� Amendments to the "Non-Conforming Uses and Structures definitions. (Section 1011). i�. Amendments to the Board of Adjustment and Appeal, establishing a Variance Board (Section 1014) �', Amendments to Business Zoning (Section 1005) �. Amendments to Shopping Center Zoning (Section 1006) E. Amendments to Industrial Zoning (Section 1007) M'. Amendments to the Park and Open Space zone, adding city/county parks and open space to the zoning map (Section 1004.11) �.� SUGGESTED ACTIONS: � Discuss, take time to review over the next 3 weeks.
