Application for City Council Dan Roe (Attachment) 1�.� for wanting to SeYVe on the Roseville City Council: Roseville has been my hometown longer than any place that I have lived. This is where I deliberately chose to settle myself after graduating from college and beginning life on my own. This city has been a wonderFul place to live, and I am sure that it will be a wonderful place to eventually raise a family. I have been a follower of the process of govemment most of my adult life, from the local to the national level. Sho�ly after I moved here, I stumbled upon a city council meeting broadcast on cable TV, and I have been hooked ever since. The process is fascinating, if not at times excruciating, to observe. Lately, though, observation has not been enough for me. Naw, participation is what truly interests me. Not because I want the personal notoriety, but rather because, after observing for this long, I believe that I have something positive to contribute, and I want to try to do so. I want to serve on the city council in this role as a temporary "caretaker" appointee as a way to begin to make that contribution in a concrete way. While I am not a seasoned veteran of Roseville civic activity, I believe that I am mature enough, observant enough, understanding enough, rational enough, and creative enough to be an equal participant in the council deliberations. Fmm my years of observation, and from some participation, I have a good basic understanding of how the council operates, what types of business are conducted, who the participants are, and what the history has been. Through my participation as a citizen with input into issues before the council, and through my actions and statements during my unsuccessful campaign for mayor last year, I believe that I have demonstrated my knowledge of, thoughtFulness about, and genuine interest in the issuesfacing our city. Some of the key skills that I believe I can bring to the city council during my brief service, if appointed, include listening, understanding, communicating, and problem-solving. My profession requires me to keep those skills well practiced on a daily basis, and I take that seriously.
