The site, which includes some of the highest ground in
Roseville, is home to a 30-million gallon, underground water reservoir that for years had been
operated by the City of St. Paul. With the exception of approximately 20 acres of former water
infrastructure and a small shelter area, the site is maintained as a natural area, providing critical
habitat in this urbanized area as well as opportunities for wildlife viewing, nature observation,
and passive recreation.
In 2000, the city received a Metro Greenways Grant to conduct a Natural Resource Inventory
and create Management Plans for five parlcs within the City of Roseville, including Reservoir
Woods. The inventory identified several quality natural areas in the west segment of the parlc.
These include dry oalc forest, meszc oalc forest, dry-mesic prairie, mixed conifer-hardwood forest,
and a bog-lilce wetland with a floating mat and moat.
Project Overview:
Reservoir Woods supports substantial quality natural areas, including oak forest and dry-mesic
prairie and is 3 miles from downtown St. Paul. The City of Roseville is requesting $23,545 of
DNR funds as part of a$34,420 project toward restoration of 57 acres of oalc forest, prairie,
wetland, and mixed coniferous-hardwood forest.
City of Roseville —ReservoirWoods Restoration
2003 MetroGreenways Site Restoration Grant Application August 2003
-.1-
