Roseville Fire Department
Goals for 2004 and 2005
2004 Goals
1. COUNCIL SUPPORT: The greatest opportunity facing the fire department is obtaining
support from the Council to make service improvements to keep the Roseville Fire De-
partment providing the same level of service as similar-sized communities in the Metro.
Most of these improvements can be accomplished with NO ADDITIONAL FUNDING.
2. TRAINING: Obtain Council approval to hire a training manager, allowing the fire de-
partment to conduct firefighter training on-duty. Because of the money saved from train-
ing off-duty, the fire departmentwould require no additional funding for this position.
The firefighters would receive twice as much training as they currently do and the quality
of the training program would improve. Better trained firefighters can perform their j obs
safer and provide better service to the community. NO ADDITIONAL FUNDING IS
BEING REQUESTED FOR THIS GOAL (for 2004 or any future year).
3. RESPOND TO TRAFFIC ACCIDENT CALLS: It is very common in the Metro-
region for fire departments to respond to traffic accidents where people are inj ured to as-
sist with patient treatment and packaging for transport to the hospitaL It is also common
for fire departmentpersonnel to ride to the hospital with the ambulance to assist with the
treatment of critical patients. When a traffic accident (with injuries) occurs it takes two-
three trained responders to properly treat and package one patient. This is in addition to
the need to control the traffic around the accident scene and conducting the investigation.
Roseville's Firefighters are trained, equipped and willing to respond to traffic accident
calls to assist the police department and Allina. NO ADDITIONAL FUNDING IS BE-
ING REQUESTED FOR THIS GOAL.
