� <br />Daniela Vazquez <br />Honorable Mention <br />Taught by Michelle Irwin <br />Parkview Center School <br />Segregation after a ruling by the Supreme Court <br />Everybody believes that after the Supreme Court's ruling on <br />Brown vs. Board of Education segregation stopped, but that is not <br />true. The Supreme Court ruled that segregated schools were <br />unconstitutional and did not provide a quality education to all <br />students. However, this ruling did not do what the Supreme <br />Court wanted, that was to END segregation. I t just promoted <br />desegregation. I t began to change segregation but not <br />completely, because some people's mind have not changed in the <br />way they see African Americans. <br />The Supreme Court put an end to segregation, but only as a law. <br />I t d i d n ot change and it cannot change t h e way some people thi n k. <br />That is why segregation did not end completely. The Supreme <br />Court said that all black citizens could go to school with white <br />people. Nevertheless, African American children had United <br />State Marshals escorting them to school so white people would <br />not hurt them. But they still did. How? They did not talk to them, <br />and if they did they would say things that would make them feel <br />less than the others. They would also never include them in <br />anything at all. Allowing African American children to attend <br />"white schools" did change some people's thoughts, and that's how <br />
