REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Approval: � 1 <br />BACKGROUND <br />Date: 03/08/04 <br />It�m No.: 4.a <br />� �� �� � � '�'� ��: <br />item Description: Acceptance of tho Donation of K-9 <br />Bulletproof Vests from the Pennies To <br />Protect Police Dogs, Inc. Foundation <br />Directed by the USPCA (United States Police Canine Association), Canine Officer Joseph Spark <br />contacted Pennies To Protect Police Dogs, Inc. and requested the donation of three bulletproof <br />vests for the City's K-9's: Cooper, Hunter and Major. <br />Pennies To Protect Police Dogs, Inc. was started by Stacey Hillman to buy police dogs <br />bulletproof and stab resistant K-9 vests and then donate the vests to requesting law enforcement <br />agencies. Ms. Hillman relies on donations from the community, businesses and organizations to <br />provide the dogs with bulletproof vests. <br />Through Pennies To Protect Police Dogs, Inc., the Roseville Police Department has been <br />presented with a donation of three K-9 bulletproof vests. <br />PROPOSED ACTION <br />Allow the police departmentto accept the three K-9 bulletproof vests valued at $1,800. <br />FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS <br />None. <br />Pennies To Protect Police Dogs, Inc. relies on donationsfrom the community, businesses and <br />organizations to cover the purchase of the vests, at cost, from Point Blank Body Armor. Pennies <br />To Protect Police Dogs, Inc. seeks nothing in return from the recipientagencyfor the K-9 vest <br />donations. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Allow the police departmentto accept the three K-9 bulletproof vests valued at $1,800. <br />�� ACTION REQUESTED <br />Request Council approval to accept the three K-9 bulletproof vests. <br />
