City Council Regular Meeting — 05/24/04 <br />DRAFT Minutes - Page 18 <br />Further discussion ensued regarding trail segments; budget <br />restrictions; additional maintenance requirements; right-of-way <br />acquisitions and temporary construction easements; roadway <br />widths and alignments. <br />Councilmember Ihlan spoke in support of this project, due to <br />availability of federal funding, and addressed benefits versus <br />detriments to the community (i.e., public safety, drainage issues). <br />Councilmember Schroeder opined his endorsement and support <br />of reconstruction of County Road B-2, but reiterated his <br />philosophy that the city construct no additional pathways, <br />sidewalks or trails, until able to maintain those we currently <br />have. Councilmember Schroeder also addressed his concern for <br />where additional funding would come from to pursue this <br />project, even with federal funding; and also noted that a portion <br />of the pathway was proposed in an area that consisted of truck <br />terminals. <br />Further discussion ensued regarding street lighting; timing of the <br />project; whether County Road C or County Road B-2 would be <br />considered the City's "main corridor;" setback issues and federal <br />requirements for their funding; maintenance concerns. <br />Mayor Klausing spoke in support of considering the project at <br />this time. <br />Councilmember Maschka concurred in his support of pursuing <br />the proj ect at this time, inclusive with reconstruction of County <br />Road B-2. <br />Maschka moved, Ihlan seconded, directing staff to order plans <br />and specifications for a pathway project from Walnut to <br />Lexington as delineated during tonight's discussion, including <br />recommendations of Councilmember Schroeder for other <br />terminuses on Walnut. <br />Roll Call <br />Ayes: Maschka, Ihlan and Klausing. <br />Nays: Kough and Schroeder. <br />Maschka moved, Ihlan seconded, directing staff to explore <br />
