compressors. Brine is a salt solution and non compatible with ammonia, oil and any
mechanical parts in the compressors.
At this time it is somewhat difficultto indicate the extent of the repairs and/or say exactly
what the final cost will be for the repairs, but it must be done in a process as' follows:
1. Mop up and cleanup of the three compressor units that have been contaminated
with the brine solution (please refer to refrigeration company on the scope of the
cleanup job). COMPLETED
. Open and inspect the shell and tube chiller and malce necessary repairs (please
refer to refrigeration company recommendation letter on the scope of the job).
Staff has been attempting to solicit as many quotations as possible from capable
and reputable refrigeration companies. The best that can be accomplished is a
general estimate for the worlc to be done because the problem is behind the scenes.
Meaning dismantling of the Chiller needs to occur first to discover the extent of
the malfunction. The estimate of dismantling the chiller system is largely lrnown,
however what is inside is not. The estimate that we have received is attached and a
summary is as follows:
a. Removing the bell ends, removing ammonia
L_ Pressure test Chiller/perform lealc checic
c, Reroll tubes in Chiller
$18,393
$ 1,630
$4,000
d. Recharging the system with new/clean ammonia $13,655
. Reassemblingthe Chiller including insulation
f. Pressure Test Floor
. Repairing any other issues that may arise
Total Best Estimate assuming nothing else surfaces
$29,600
$3,729
$ ?? time and materials
$71,007
The issue is an unplanned and unbudeted situation, but is worlc does need to be completed
prior to opening for the 2004-OS slcating season. We would anticipate doing the worlc in the
above steps beginning in July 2004.
Please let me lrnow how you would lilce me to proceed. Thanlc you and if you have any further
questions or need clarification, please let me lrnow.
 Page 2
