Roseville Activity Center. This had been a vital
part of the community serving as a hub for program, storage, display, meeting and work space
for all. It was truly the center point for the community and numerous affiliated groups. The
building also housed the Roseville Historical Society and provided them with over 800 square
feet of display, work and archive storage space along with the provision of additional meeting
space.
In the fall of 2000 the Roseville Activity Center closed and the Roseville Parks and Recreation
offices and a majority of the affiliated groups moved to the Fairview Community Center where
the City leased 5115 square feet. The Roseville Historical Society is one of those groups that
is currently at Fairview in a small 100 sq. ft. office and in dire need of additional display and
archive storage space.
Staff continues to search for other sites to locate community activities, storage of city and
community equipment as well as locations where community volunteer groups can meet,
organize and function. These groups provide a valuable service to the community and at a true
volunteer rate. We feel that it is extremely important to continue to facilitate them as best as
possible within available resources so that they can continue to provide excellent service to the
community.
In the fall of this year many changes will again occur and a unique opportunity will be
presented. The Parks and Recreation Offices, Fire Administration and IT functions will be
moving to City Hall. It is anticipated that a majority of the leased space at Fairview will be
turned back to the School District including the Historical Society Office, Roseville Community
Band equipment/music storage areas, general community group records storage areas,
meeting space, as well as access to other room use as a part of the lease agreement. Space
that is anticipated to be retained at Fairview will be for limited City and affiliated group
equipment storage as well as the gym stage for the youth dance program.
Staff proposes that when Fire Department Administration and IT functions vacate Fire Station
#1 and relocate to City Hall that those upper level spaces at Fire Station #1 be allocated to the
Roseville Historical Society, Roseville Community Band storage of equipment and music,
storage and general officelwork space for various affiliated groups as well as multiuse meeting
