City Council Regular Meeting — 07/12/04 <br />DRAFT Minutes - Page 30 <br />the City for years to come. <br />Ms. Pederson concluded by once again thanking the City <br />Council for appointing her to serve on the panel and participate <br />in this "wonderful" process and learning experience. <br />Don Hewitt, resident east of Fairview <br />Mr. Hewitt opined that the process was good, and that this <br />particular developer was represented by quality firms, and was <br />of a size that could handle a project of this size. Mr. Hewitt <br />further opined that he didn't have a perception that a specific <br />agenda was presented, that the panel represented a good variety <br />of people, and good input was provided and received. Mr. <br />Hewitt expressed his personal desire to provide additional jobs, <br />maintain the City's tax base, and receive additional housing and <br />retail, understanding that this was the consensus of the group. <br />Mr. Hewitt encouraged the community to rely on the <br />developers' expertise, noting that the panel addressed numerous <br />issues, including the proposed parkway. Mr. Hewitt noted that <br />that while the plan may seem vague at this time, the real detail <br />would be occurring over the next six months, and encouraged <br />the City Council to keep the panel and their knowledge base <br />actively involved in whole or in part during this part of the <br />process, as well as using the information in the future. <br />Tim Kotecki, 3078 Mount Ridge Road <br />Mr. Kotecki provided the Council with his personal analysis <br />and research, including a map, of current retail within a two <br />mile radius of the proposed development, including restaurants. <br />Mr. Kotecki, as part of the "minority" disputed the need �'ra <br />additional retail and/or restaurants in the area. Mr. Kotecki <br />opined that the panel had been stacked in favor of the developer <br />and his proposed plan. Mr. Kotecki addressed his perceptions <br />of traffic issues that will degrade the surrounding neighborhood; <br />big box compared with office traffic generation; Twin Lake <br />blighted areas being systematically cleaned up; and supported <br />Mr. Sands' alternative proposal to build residential at this time, <br />and set aside parcels for additional residential and office at a <br />later date. <br />
