Department Approval: � � � REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION Manager Reviewed: � ��' DATE: 07/19/04 ITEM: 4.d Agenda Section: Consent Item Description: Purchase of Refurbished Workstations for City Hall Remodel Background: In the development of the overall project budget for the addition to city hall and the remodel of existing spaces, money was set aside to purchase additional workstations, seating, tables, and miscellaneous furniture. This project is nearly doubling the pre-existing office and public spaces. We have explored available sources for filling these needs and to best accomplish the integration of existing workstations and seating into the overall project. We feel this is best accomplished utilizing existing state contracts that provide the opportunity to refurbish workstations, utilizing the existing inventory of furniture. As spaces are reconfigured in the remodel, as much of the existing workstation components as possible will be reused. Panels will be refurbished with new fabric. We will be making every effort to utilize as muc of the existing as practicable. Financial Implication: We have reserved approximately $300,000 in the overall project budget for furniture and fixtures. This is a relatively low number for a project of this magnitude. Our ability to integrate existing furniture and fixtures with the new is imperative to accomplishing this portion of the project within budget. Recommendation: We recommend the approval of refurbishing existing workstations and purchasing additional refurbished workstations and related filing storage from Alternative Business Systems under existing cooperative state contract for the City Hall remodel. The estimated cost for the workstations, filing, and installation is $127,000. RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: Motion approving purchase of refurbished workstations for the City Hall remodel, including installation, from Alternative Business Systems for $127,000.
