City Council Study Session — 11/104
Minutes Page 19
10. Citizen Advisory Commissions
City Manager Neal Beets provided survey information recently
solicited at Council direction, for current Commissions regarding
size, term length, term limit, reappointment process, and addition
of environmental review by the Public Works and Transportation
Commission (PWTC).
Discussion included timefi-ame, term expirations; and additional
input fi-om staff.
Mayor Klausing opined his support for consistency in the size of
commissions from an organizational standpoint; consistency in
length of terms; and addition of environmental review to the
PWTC.
Councilmember Ihlan concurred with addition of environmental
issues to the PWTC; and noted that she was open to
standardizing terms or setting a minimum size with variations as
needed.
Councilmember Maschka opined that commission size in some
degree of consistency and standardized term lengths were
applicable; and noted with interest the lack of interest in
reappointment interviews.
Councilmember Kough opined that people shouldn't be
automatically appointed, but that each Councilmember take the
initiative to get to know applicants; spoke in support of adding
environmental review to the PWTC; further opined that the
Human Rights Commission was too large, but the other sizes
seemed appropriate.
Citizen Advisory
Commissions
