REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 03/27/00 <br />ITEM NO.: E _ 2 <br />Depar nt Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />� �`-���� �j Organizational Business <br />Item Description: Grass Lake Watershed Management Organization Appointment <br />Background: The Grass Lake Watershed Management Organization (GLWMO) is a joint <br />powers organization that manages water resources in the northeastern portion of Roseville and <br />southern Shoreview. A S-member board, appointed by the Roseville and Shoreview City <br />Councils, governs GLWMO. Board members serve three-year terms — with two members from <br />Roseville and two from Shoreview. Appointment of the fifth member is rotated between the two <br />cities. <br />GLWMO is currently preparing its 2°d generation watershed management plan — a task that takes <br />a great deal of effort and commitment from board members. Once the plan is completed, likely in <br />200 1, the board will need to review member cities 2°a generation plans for compliance with the <br />GLWMO plan. Consistency in Board membership will greatly improve the process of developing <br />and reviewing these plans. Accordingly, the GLWNIO Board is requesting that both the Roseville <br />and Shoreview City Councils make appointments to ensure stable board membership over the <br />next few years.
