REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DATE: 03/27l00 ITEM NO:G-1 Department Approval: Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: �\=-�� Recognitions Item Description: Recognition of Lake Owasso Garden Club for Award at Central Park Arboretum BACKGROUND The Lake Owasso Club has long been active in the community in providing beautiful flower gardens as well as education the public in how to create and maintain beautiful gardens. In 1997, parks and recreation staff assembled the Central Park Arboretum Advisory Committee. The Lake Owasso Garden Club has been a key member of the committee. The club has taken an active role in developing the Central Park Arboretum including a garden plot that has recently been awarded the Joseph Priley Award - a Minnesota Green Award for excellence in community beautification. The award is given annually to an organization, group or individual, which best commemorates and furthers Mr. Joseph Priley's community beautification ideals. The project was led by Monica Oehrlein and involved several other club members. Members from the club will be attending the Council meeting. POLICY OBJECTIVE The City of Roseville encourages citizens and organizations to participate in improvements to the park system thereby expanding the resources available for providing quality facilities for all to use. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS None. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the recognition and congratulations of the Lake Owasso Garden Club for their efforts in the community, the Central Park Arboretum and in particular for their award. COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED , Motion recognizing the Lake Owasso Garden Club for their efforts in the community, the Central Park Arboretum and in particular for the Joseph Priley Award - a Minnesota Green Award for excellence in community beautification.
