I I
► • i i ► /
Greener Pastures offers an organic solution to your commercial property lawn care
needs. Your employees, tenants and customers can feel good about not having harsh
man made chemicals underfoot while adding valuable organic material back to your
soil. Our fertilizers release Nitrogen slowly at about the same rate that the plants take it
up. The result is much less run-off that pollutes our waterways or leaches into the
ground water. The beneficial microorganisms we incorporate into our fertilizers will help
break down thatch and other organic material turning this problem into soil.
Our solution to weeds also incorporates an all natural product. Nature's Weed Control
is derived from an agricultural crop grown in the mid-west. This substance was
commonly fed to farm animals for many years. It is non-toxic and very effective on
broadleaf weeds. If applied when plants are very young, Nature's Weed Control even
controls crabgrass. Traditionally, weeds have been controlled using chemical
pesticides. In aquatic applications these chemicals have to be done in small
increments because of their high toxicity. On turfgrass the lawn has to be quarantined
for two to three days. Greener Pastures is proud to announce the first all natural solu-
tion to weed control.
Nature's Weed Control or NWC for short, is made from an agricultural crop grown in
Minnesota. The active ingredient occurs naturally in the extract of the plant as it does in
many animals and plants including man. This compound has traditionally been used as
an animal feed supplement. In America, it is registered with the Food and Drug Admini-
stration as a food additive. In Japan it is registered as a food.
The way this ingredient kills weeds is to stimulate the plant to photosynthesize more
rapidly. Broadleaf plants and algae are affected severely to the point of inetabolizing
themselves to death. Plants of the grass family simply enjoy a slight increase in
metabolism. Evidence of this can be seen in electron micrographs of chloroplasts that
have been treated with NWC. Oxygen bubbles are present as well as ruptured mem-
branes from over-activity.
To compare the toxicity of traditional chemical pesticides with NWC, we will use the
standard marker LD50. LD50 is half the amount of the active ingredient it takes to cause
death in rats. This number is expressed in mg of product per Kg of body weight. The
most common turfgrass herbicide is 24-D and this chemical has an LD50 of 970 mg/Kg.
NWC has an LD50 of 11,204. As you can see, 2-4-D is 11.5 times more toxic than
NWC. This should be reason enough to choose the organic alternative.
Unfortunately, organic solutions are traditionally more expensive than their chemical
counterparts. This problem has been greatly improved with NWC. Greener Pastures
has worked very hard in refining the manufacturing equipment and techniques in order
to bring you an all organic, affordable product.
