REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br />DATE: 4/24/00 <br />ITEM NO.: G-1 <br />Department ApprovaL• Manager Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />�`-�'� � Consent <br />• <br />Item Description: Final contract acceptance of 1997 Contract A, City Project P-97-03 <br />Background: <br />1997 Contract A, City Proj ect P-97-03 consists of <br />North McCarrons Boulevard, Rice Street to Roselawn Avenue <br />South McCarrons Boulevard, Rice Street to Roselawn Avenue <br />Roselawii Avenue, McCarrons Boulevard to Dale Street <br />The contract for this work was awarded to T. A. Shifsky & Sons, Inc., North St. Paul, Minnesota <br />on Apri128, 1997. The attached Council Action Form details project financing and schedule. <br />These projects were constructed during the summer of 1997 and completed in 1998. Final punch <br />list �items have been completed, and the contractor has requested final payment. <br />Policy objectives: City policy requires that the following items be completed to finalize a <br />construction contract: <br />❑ , A project summary sheet detailing costs and schedule. <br />❑� Certification from the City Engineer verifying that all of the work has been completed in <br />accordance �vith-plans and specifications. <br />❑ A resolution by the City Council accepting the contract and beginning the one-year <br />warranty. <br />Financial implications: The work performed on this contract was part of the 1997 Pavement <br />Management Program. The cost of this contract has been financed as outlined in the feasibility <br />report approved by the City Council on January 27, 1997. <br />The final contract amount, $2,731,979.28 is $707565.5 1- greater than the awarded amount of <br />$2024,414. -This represents an overrun of approximately 35%. <br />16.22% of this overrun was due to the 3 change orders, totaling $328,474.38. The change orders <br />covered costs associated with retaining walls, project redesign and additional landscaping. <br />
